I'm a 26 year old aussie guy who is thinking about getting a UK working visa to do some work in the UK and also visit some countries in Europe. I'm just looking at how much I need to get started. Can an aussie who has applied for a visa to work in the UK answer these questions for me:- How much money do I need to apply for the visa, I see they say you need to prove you have your first two months of living expenses, how much would that be?- The cost of the visa?- Do I need a return airfare or is one-way fine?- What's an average weekly wage in the UK?- Average cost of rent in London in a share house?- Travel Insurance, how much cover do I need and an approximate cost?- Any other costs I have considered? That's alot of questions sorry......

i can help you with some but not all of it. i just got back from london and paid 80 quid a week for a room in a house with a family. you can get shared rooms for cheaper (share a bedroom) there are lots of options, none very cheap.only get travel insurance to uk and then get a mutlitrip insurance from the uk as its MUCH cheaper. you can get one way but a understand its much harder to get that passed.london is very expensive so if you can sign up to an agency for work ready to get over there you are better off. the following sites are great. london is a very expensive city but you will have such a great time there and in europe. travel from london to other places are soooo cheap onec you gte the hang of finding cheap flights. have a great time...im jealous :-)

The UK govt website gives advice on what is currently considered sufficient funds and airfares.Remember that you can buy a full far ticket and get a full refund if a ticket is required (but for this reason it is often not).Wages vary a lot, average annual salary is in the region of £25,000. Casual work will pay less.On Insurance DO NOT BUY INSURANCE IN THE UK. Yes, it is cheaper, but it is also not valid. A UK travel policy will only cover you if you are a permanent resident of the UK - which you are not. You will be uninsured. You may be able to get a policy from a specialist broker that will cover you, but it will almost certainly be cheaper to get a gap year policy from an Australian broker.
