Hi get travel insurance before you depart can save you the worry of unexpected medical costs. Regardless of how healthy and fit you are, remember the first rule of travel if you can't afford travel insurance, you can't afford to travel see link

From what I know... Immigration probably won't ask you to show proof of health insurance. But don't risk NOT having health insurane or travel insurance when travelling here. No matter how healthy you think you are, travelling to another country will always have risks: accidents, prevailing illnesses in the country (such as cold and flu going around), food "poisoning", other diseases your body might not be immune to - all this can become a real problem and will cost you A LOT on money if you require medical assistance.Believe me - it happens! I work in health related/community services work and have come across several cases of elderly people visiting Australia who got sick while staying here with families. It can and DOES get very very complicated and very hard to sort out. That is hard enough - with families here but if you are simply visiting as a tourist and no other help avaialbel - it is NOT - I repeat- NOT- worth the risk of coming here without insurance.
