Yes - (I assume you mean an EHIC card as the EHIC replaced the E111 more than a year ago).As mentioned elsewhere a travel insurance policy provides far more medical benefits than the EHIC.(And come on - an annual policy can be had for less than £30.00 and two weeks cover for £15.00 - it's not as if its expensive!)

YES. The E111 was replaced with the EHIC ( European Health Insurance card ). All this will provide you with is emergancy medical care in a state run hospital. Travel Insurance covers for delay, lost luggage, theft, lost money, hijack, cancellation etc.Also the EHIC will not cover you if you have to stay longer in resirt because of illness and it will not get you home by air ambulanec if needed. Also if the worst happens and you die, your family would have to pay the HUGE amount to get your body home.ALWAYS take travel insurance.
