...when travel insurers talk about "single trip insurance policy", what does that *actually* cover? The reason I ask is that I am going abroad, but before I get to my final destination I stop-over in another country overnight. Since they are part of the same holiday, are they covered by a single-trip policy or not?Furthermore ~ just to make me sound even more stupid ~ does a single-trip policy cover both outbound and in-bound flights?PS. Despite my ignorance (I am a certified fool), I do understand that policies vary between insurers, but in general, their terminology must remain constant, right?

They are all valid questions from one certified fool to another. The terminology does not have to remain constant. It can change from state to state and office to office. The terminology is where they get you. They tend to put all kinds of things in it. When I travel I contact my insurance company and get covered. This way I know that it is a legimate policy and a legimate agency that I am dealing with. Good luck to you

Basically means you are covered for the entirety of that trip outbound and inbound. Just a help hint Hun if you plan on travelling again it is often much cheaper to buy the insurance for the year, I did with the Post office and it was not much dearer to buy it for a year than for one trip I was amazed.

You have a lot of very good questions. Get someone that you know and trust to help you with this; so you won't be talked into something that you don't really need by someone who will try to take you for your money. There are a lot of scams out there. Some places will try to sell you more than you really need.Good luck.

I don't know anything about travel insurance but I am concerned about the way you run yourself down. You are not a fool. don't let anyone tell you you are, including yourself. go to google and type 'single trip insurance policy' in the search pane and I'm sure you will find more information on it than you can handle.

Dear friend, You don't have to get upset by these terms of insurance policies. If you do not know anything that does not make you a "certified fool". Nobody knows everything and so everyone is a fool, so to say in somthing else. Anyway as far as I know when you go to the insurance to make a policy for your tyravelling, the insurance should cover the whole flight, even though you change planes at a certain country. A single trip insurance policy could be for someone who is going to a place to stay there with no return back. The easiest thing to do is to ask your Insurer and tell him all about your trip to make clear the demands that are troubling you. You can contact them by phone which is easier. You can decide for yourself what fits you and what sound good for you. You can check with more than one Agency. It is better. So put your mind to rest, you're no fool at all, you're just new to the procedure and so you find yourself in new terminology. Ask your agent. There shouldn't be any problem

You have to be careful - most policies will define a trip as starting when you leave your home and finish when you retunr home (which is why you must include the starting date and return date when you get quotes) Cancellation cover for a single trip starts when you take out a policy - for an annual trip cancellation cover starts on the inception date of the policy. Some insurers terminatve cover once you arrive back in the UK - this causes problems if, for instance, you have a connecting flight.Otherwise a single trip can include stopping off at various destinations (NB - you may find that curtailment/ cancellation/ travel delay only applies to the FIRST flight from the UK, NOT any subseuant flights)So - some definitions will differ between insurers, as a general guide, the more expensive the policy, the better the cover.I won't say you are stupid or a fool - many people think they know more about travel insurance than they actually do - and it is only when a claim arises that they find out the excess and policy limits are the reason why the policy was so cheap in the first place - they are fools - those that don't know and don't know that they don't know are foolish - shun them. You realise that you are ignorant - ignorance is not foolish - doing nothing to correct ignorance is. (Those who don't know and know that they don't know can be taught - teach them.)
