Hi Richard,Unfortunately, no pet insurance company will cover your cat for existing illnesses - although you should still get insurance in case anything happens in the future.I use Pet Plan, which starts at just under £7 per month, so it's really good value.I'm sorry to hear that your kitty has asthma; I'm sure you'll have him/her feeling better soon.xx Emmie

You'll be pushed to find one that covers exsiting conditions, most refuse to, the best thing to do is ring round the most popular ones and ask, they may charge you an extra premium but it would be worth it if they cover you.Good Luck and I hope this helps.

RichardNo pet insurance company will cover pre-existing conditions for any reason. However many distinguish between curable conditions and non-curable.For example, if your dog broke his leg prior to enrolling then treatment related to that leg would be excluded for first policy term. After that coverage would then be available for that leg. Thus a broken leg would most likely be considered curable. On the other hand if your dog had a history of back problems prior to enrolling (herniated discs, etc) then all back problems would likely be excluded. In other words, back problems would fall into the category of "non-curable".Remember that most insurance, no matter what sort, won't cover pre-existing conditions. For example, you can't get auto insurance *after* you've had an accident and you can't get home insurance *after* a tree has fallen on it.Getting insurance means being prepared and taking it out when things are going well. As the saying goes, insurance is the one thing you can't get when you need it the most.AlexEmbrace Pet Insurancehttp://www.embracepetinsurance.com

None, I've had the same problem with insurance, my GSD has warts and cysts that have to be removed each year and I can't get insurance to cover it. She is nearly 8 and has between 20-30 removed at one time, in the last 18 months she has cost me £1500 and there will be more to come but you pay it because they are a member of your family and you don't want them in any pain. Good luck, let me know if you ever find one.

I'm afraid none will. It's just common sense for insurance companies - if they covered existing conditions, they would never make any money as everyone would be getting policies as soon as their animals got ill and they'd only ever be paying out instead of receiving money. I would suggest either starting a savings account just for your cat, or if you're in the US there's a care credit scheme you can look into that will help budgeting for vet bills. If you're in the UK and on benefits, the PSDA may be able to help.Chalice
