If your sibs will benefit from the sale of the home, then by all means, they need to help. If not, then whomever inherited the house would rightly be responsible. Why do you want to pay off the house???Why not just sell it as it is?Yes, they do and will help you pay the legal fees.The best thing you can do is get an attorney if your brother and sister are not listening to you. He/she will make a believer out of them REAL fast.But remember, as executor of your mom's estate you are the one who is suppose to do all the dirty work. If you don't want to do it, an attorney will do it all for you.

your siblings will sit back and let you do all the work, if you let them. you were probably the "take charge" sister growing up, and they're just maintaining the status quo. you need to get everyone together and calmly tell them what's involved, and suggest what each one of them can do to help. you may be surprised to find out that they are willing to help, and and are actually resentful that you were always bossing them around growing up. it's time to clear the air.

These cost should have been deducted from the estate before you have them those six figure checks.As executor you are expected to do all the crap work. At least you know it was done right.

My guess is your mother has passed away, right? Anyway, let me put it this way. If you are sharing the property with your siblings, then they have to share the legal fees. If however, they refuse, then it is time for you to buy their shares or sell off the property if you can't afford to buy from them.

I'm soo sorry about your mom. I lost my mom nearly 9 years ago. Where as we didn't have the financial burden ( my day has the will) we did have the nastiness of my sisters taking EVERYTHING and leaving the rest of us with crap.As far as the legal issues, they should not expect you to pay for it all. They should help and I wouldn't take NO for an answer. Just because your mom made you executor of her estate, doesn't mean you should have to pay for all the left overs.I truly am sorry. I would say you need to be frank about it. Tell them you need their help. I wouldn't do it in a pleading way but in a factual way.You may be right that they have gone on with their lives because they feel you have things under control. They may also be hiding from any responsibility they may know they should shoulder. It's better not to hide from letting them know you need and expect their help.Good luck. Absolutely not!!! You shouldn't even have to ask, they should have contacted you to see what needed to be done. Write a letter and cc it to all of them letting them know what their portion of the money due will be.
