My husband just got out of the Army in Oct. and started a new job and then I became pregnant. The health insurance doesn't kick in until just weeks before the baby is born. I'm 14 wks along and we are looking to find health insurance to cover me and my son, who is 19 months old. We live in Texas so I'm not sure if this is just a Texas thing, but when we called an insurance agency they tell me that I am not insurable at all because I am pregnant! How do they get away with doing that to people??? I'm asking only for annual exams and emergency care, which birth qualifies as an emergency, but they tell us that I am not eligible. I'm pregnant, wouldn't you thing that makes me more eligible than anyone given that I'm carrying another life???? Is that just one agencies policy? We don't qualify for Medicaid because we make more than $20K a year and we aren't dirt poor. You know because people who make $40K a year is automatically able to afford everything or so our government thinks. It's not like we can't afford to pay for health insurance, we have the money to pay for the monthly premium. I'm just refused because I am pregnant, if that will ever make any sense. What do they expect me to do? Be like the illegals and go to Parkland and deliver and dash out and never pay my bill? I don't think so.We have no insurance at all right now.

What insurance do you have? We have Cigna HMO and I believe they have individual plans that you might qualify for. www.mycigna.com If Cigna is the one that turned you down, sorry. Maybe try Blue Cross Blue Shield?

youre covered as far as care, delivery, and treatment of any coplications during pregnancy go. the first poster has a good suggestion, and hospitals must help you by law, dont worry.

NO NO NO! I just got insured! I am seven weeks pregnant!Yes, if you have been recently treated for any illness, etc, in the last six months, it is considered pre-existing and will not be covered.HOWEVER, under HIPAA Pregnancy is no longer a pre-existing condition! You better make some moves! This isn't right! From the website:What is a preexisting condition?A preexisting condition is a medical condition present before your enrollment date in any new group health plan.Under HIPAA, the only preexisting conditions that may be excluded under a preexisting condition exclusion are those for which medical advise, diagnosis, care or treatment was recommended or received within the 6-month period before your enrollment date. (Your enrollment date is your first day of coverage, or if there is a waiting period to get into the plan, the first day of the waiting period.)If you had a medical condition in the past, but have not received any medical advise, diagnosis, care or treatment within the 6 months prior to your enrollment date in the plan, your old condition is not a preexisting condition to which an exclusion can be applied. Moreover, under HIPAA, preexisting condition exclusions cannot be applied to pregnancy, regardless of whether the woman had previous health coverage. In addition, a preexisting condition exclusion cannot be applied to a newborn, adopted child under age 18, or a child under age 18 placed for adoption as long as the child became covered under health coverage within 30 days of the birth, adoption or placement for adoption and provided that the child does not incur a subsequent 63-day break in coverage. Finally, genetic information may not be treated as a preexisting condition in the absence of a diagnosis. If your coverage is through an insurance company or offered through an HMO, state law may provide additional protections.

Totally agree and is pisses me off! We have 2 kids with no insurance,we can't get it either. The state system is so screwed, you either have to be Mexican or a crack head to get anything for free now days.(No pun intended)There must be a free clinic in your area that will give you service based on your income, here in OK We have a Dept.health Center and it's based on your income, which ours is way over the Welfare mark ($1,100.00 Month before taxes) so for my kids and I, I don't have to pay anything.Check around someone will help you.Go rent SICKO Very interesting...............Good luck!

In the great USofA... it is illegal for a pregnant woman to be refused heath insurance. We make about 25k a year, we just barely pay are bills, but still qualified for medical assistance, I would try to go to your local DSS and at least fill out the application for just medicad, there are different types of programs they can help you with to find one that will help your situation, I'm not saying you'll get staight medicad, but there are aother gov. assisted programs through DSS that you may be eligibe for just make sure you ask them about these when you have an interview, for some reason they keep info like this from you if you don't ask about it... its like thier little secret..

Call around. In Texas, there are quite a few insurance companies that will cover you even though you are pregnant. Pregnancy is not a pre-existing condition. My sister was 12 weeks pregnant when her husband's insurance came through and it was Aetna (Austin, TX) and they covered everything (except co-pays and stuff of course). Try that.
