Default I'm an insurance agent looking for a way to advertise, any suggestions?

I am a fairly new insurance agent selling accident, sickness, disability, and cancer insurance. The company has been in business for 88 years and is growing each year, and the products we offer are great as well as VERY affordable. The company does very little advertising and we sell door to door to small businesses as well as individuals. I have a dedicated territory of 8 counties all within 150 mile radius from my home. I don't mind going door to door, but there has to be some other kind of way to get people interested in our products. I have already seen that with allot of folks, it's a matter of timing. What are some tools I can use to get my name out there and increase sales? Thanks you very much for any help at all.

Try advertising on the phone book, or google adwords.

Magnet on the side of your vehicle with your name number and what you do.Donate to local sports teams or high school teams so you get advertisement in their programs or a banner on the back fence at the fields. Some years books also have an area for local business to put an add to raise money for the yearbook. Also ask the schools if they do a school newspaper.

OK well either quit your job, or go to a magazine HQ, or radio/TV station and then ask if they will let you go on the air to advertise. Or use the newspaper

NO BODY wants to buy INSHORANCE! End of THAT conversation. SOOO. the next issue is HOW do you get them to buy itand the answer is YOU SELL IT TO THEM.Yep, your a died in the wool INSHORANCE saleman-just 2 notches ABOVE that of whale dung on the publics radar. Now that we got the issue of what you are OUT OF THE WAY, we can get down to how to do what it is you want to do. Sell INSHORANCE.If door to door WORKS for you and you find your time LIMITED in tying to canvass 9 counties, take a page from the product distribution system. Recruit people and TEACH them how to canvass door to door. Put them on a commission equal to your set up and take a piece of the action off of the volume. But I gotta tell ya, selling sickness and cancer policies is just PLAIN wrong. WHAT if you are SICK AND HAVE cancer at the same time? Do you get to collect twice? I didn't THINK so. So, essentially you are selling two policies and letting the buyer "pick" his poison and hope that he is right. Same with death and accidental death. The sales pitch goes like this, "well mamm, statistically speaking IF your husband dies prematuely hit will MOST likely be from an accident" Therefore I recommend of Double Wammy, Double Imdemnity policy. Now, for only .78 cents per unit per month, we can also increase the deathe benifif to you by $10,000 if he dies accidently while falling off the south end of a north bound train.Wife: But sir, my husband only commutes on a train going east and west. Agent: No problem mamm. You need our Accidental East West policy then. BUT, if he should ever have the urge to travel on a North South train I would highly recommend including the North South policy as a rider...for only $1.25 per unit per month extra. It is a SMALL price to pay to know that no matter what, the little lady is protected. You would do a LOT better finding GOOD policies at GOOD prices to be sold to good people scattered across 9 counties. What you have is JUNK. I KNOW. Been there, done that and I DID get the T-shirts.

There are some pretty good books out there - Guerrilla Marketing being one of the best. It gives you some ideas on aggressive marketing without spending a lot of money. You can stuff flayers under windshield wipers of cars in the mall parking lot, hand out flyers door to door. You can run ads in the THRIFTY NICKEL (or other classified ad papers) and don't bother with big display ads - run ads in the "reader columns" - folks looking to buy, read those MORE than the big display ads.Paint your car with your product - put up billboards. I am currently building a milk truck that when finished, will have my agency logs on both sides and that will be my daily driver.I have seen some vans that have revolving billboards on them and they drive your ad around town for a cost. You might see if there are any in your area. What about radio? Gets pretty expensive running from $10-40 per thirty second spot depending on your marketing area and popularity of the station.Get you name out on the street so when folks think INSURANCE - they think of YOU. Everyone within a 10' circle ought to get one of your business cards........Hope this gives you some ideas!

I would also suggest you look into google adwords. Even if your prospects have no internet access, they have a print add feature now added to their service which might work for your area

The best way to increase your chances is through some target marketing. Mailers and door hangers work quite well, and not nearly as expensive as you would think. A website is also a great way to go. My web designer is a genius and I have personally seen him turn a one-man show into a thriving business with 18 employees, etc., within a year. (My computer tech guy introduced me to my designer. My computer tech guy was doing tech stuff on his lunch hour, moonlighting. He quit his job, went full time and hired a bunch of staff to handle all the business he got BECAUSE he followed the advice of our designer.) I think its against the Yahoo rules to give you his name, etc., on Yahoo, but you can write me and I will give it to you, if you want it. He is an awesome designer and I have no trouble recommending him. Good luck!
